butter tarts

Today, would be your birthday.
The cold temperatures
mitigated by warm hugs.
I would normally bake
two dozen butter tarts,
because you loved them.
But unlike last year,
when I could share them
with family and friends,
we cannot gather,
to remember you.
So I must either not bake them,
or eat them alone,
missing you.

Yesterday was dad’s birthday. This was also a prompt from the Read Poetry feed on Instagram. Check them out to see some amazing poetry.
