Forget Politics – a poem

Forget Politics

Who cares what colour
you present,
whose face
is printed on posters
and glossy fliers?
When sound bites
and misquoted
social media
perpetuate lies,
stereotypes and
mysogeny,
who funds
your campaign?
Who cares if
you’re qualified
when a single
misstep, mistake
twenty years ago
can ruin you?
Forget politics,
for who wins
when compassion
and empathy
duel perpetually
with purse strings?

Poetic Asides

For today’s prompt, take the phrase “Forget (blank),” replace the blank with a word or phrase, make the new phrase the title of your poem, and then, write the poem. Possible titles include: “Forget This,” “Forget About It,” and “Forget Me Not.” Don’t forget to have fun with it. – Robert Lee Brewer
