release – a poem

Side Note:

I’m taking part in the 2014 PAD challenge, which means this is a break in what I usually post. Today’s Poem is to:

For today’s prompt, write a release poem. Maybe somebody’s being released from prison or a contract. Maybe a person is signing a release form. There’s emotional and physical release. Animals capturing and releasing other animals. Trees releasing leaves in autumn. And so on.

Instead of writing for NaNoWriMo, I’ve decided to make these poems inspired by the second draft of my work-in-progress, currently titled “Arch Villains”. It will also be posted in the PAD Challenge post.

Relief floods through me
staring down my adversary
Secrets kept for too long
alone, forced to be strong
my family, forced to comply
with my enemies, allies
they won’t be forced to disclose
the information I might know.
Relief flood through me
staring down my adversary
Gun drawn, feigned surprise
aimed for my own eyes
end is near, found my peace
now it’s time for sweet release.

How about you?
