one day
One day
I won’t be surprised
by the immeasurable grief
that knocks me sideways.
Until then,
each new day
I’ll follow the steps
outlined before me
from years of
muscle memory.
And when grief’s
callous reminders
cease to have the same impact,
one day I’ll find myself again,
being me.
