job interview – a poem

Side Note:

I’m taking part in the 2014 PAD challenge, which means this is a break in what I usually post. Today’s Poem is to:

For today’s prompt, write a compulsion poem. On Sundays in autumn, I often feel a compulsion to check how my fantasy football team is doing over and over again. When I was younger, I often felt a compulsion to play Tetris–something about stacking up all those lines. I still often feel compelled to break into song while I make the kids’ lunches each morning before sending them off to school. Maybe your compulsion is writing poems!

Instead of writing for NaNoWriMo, I’ve decided to make these poems inspired by the second draft of my work-in-progress, currently titled “Arch Villains”. It will also be posted in the PAD Challenge post.

Job Interview

To build my empire
l require perfection
dedication
passion
unswerving allegiance
to my ideologies
and to myself.

To that end,
do not be surprised
if l test your loyalty.

It will not be easy.
The bar is set high
but you will jump higher
without help
or die trying.

l require this
of everyone
within my organization.
That now includes you
whether you like it or not.

How about you?
