poisonous perspective

poisonous perspective

I have seen your heart.
Spoken in words and images,
callous memes meant
to support your
selfish attitude,
regardless of the truth.
I held out hope for so long
that you simply
stirred things up.
But you have spread lies
and inaccuracies,
using false facts
and fake news
to justify
hatred, bigotry,
stereotypes
and fear.
You fear losing control.
losing your identity,
one wrapped in
being better than
everyone else,
no matter the cost.
Your poisonous perspective
pierces my heart.
And though you are deaf
to my pleas for equity,
equality,
human rights.
I choose to believe
that after my grief,
my sense of loss
over the person
I thought I knew,
I still have a voice
for those you push under your feet.

your turn

I have engaged in online politics with friends who have shown their true colours, as I have shown mine. My heart hurts, and it poured out in words. What do you do when your friends colours don’t complement your own? Feel free to share in the comments below, or write your own essay and link back here.
